tbe new (tentative) plan

Met some guys from the states that are heading to Puerto viejo Saturday. Since I was going to stay tonight in San jose to celebrate Halloween it looks like I will stay here "only" one more night. South america arrival keeps getting later.

The new tentative plan is San jose, Puerto viejo, then panama (Bocas del toro, panama city?) Then off to Colombia (Cartagena, Medellin, Bolivia and Cali) no flight booked to Colombia since the date is a moving target.

manuel antonio costa rica

I arrived yesterday and went to the local beach for a bit yesterday.

Today I went to Manuel Antonio National Park.
I saw some animals including a few types of monkeys, iguasnas?, rascoons? And deer? There was also some sort of other animal but he ran away pretty quickly. In addition I went swimming, it continues to be nice to not have come, cold water.

The challenge with the beach is the racoons are not afraid of people and are constantly trying to steal backpacks. Even loud noises and chasing them away does not always work.

When I was taking pictures of the monkeys I set my backpack and a small bag of garbage down. Even the monkey started heading towards them. He did get the garbage, which was pretty much empty, but I did not want him to have the plastic bag.... At least he did not get my backpack. It stayed on my back after that.

Tomorrow I head back to San jose. I may stay 2 nights instead of 1 so I can be there on Halloween.

I am still not sure if I am going to perto viejo Costa Rica before Boca's del toro panama or not.

jaco costa rica

Iarrived at the bus station in San jose about 8:45, 15 minutes prior to departure. What I did not know is you cannot buy your ticket from the driver. When I went to buy my ticket in was told it was sold out. In my mind that left me two options....wait 2 hours for the next bus or ask if I can stand....for the 3-4 hour bus ride, I did not like either option. I decided not to wait 2 hours and thankfully had no problem sitting the whole way.

I stumbled on 2 hostels. One was $10 the other was $13 with ac and pool. I splurged and spent the extra $3. Good folks...1 they had extra food and shared their fish, potatoes with me and 2 some of my clothes were outside drying. I almost brought them in but they were not quite dry. Then the rain started. They let me use their dryer.

More delays in getting to south america. 1 I am going to a national park tomorrow, they are all closed on Mondays. 2 I am told I need to go back to San jose to get to the Caribbean coast.

Today I took a bus to go see crocs. Not much else to do here if you dont surf though.

In the casino. I have never seen a pool table against a wall. Must make for an interesting game.

san jose costa rica

Two nights ago a bunch of went to "a college bar 5 minute teacpxi ride away" the only thing is it was not a college bar and more than 5 minutes away. We ordered a bottle of rum and a couple of buckets of beer and a fun time was still had by all.

Its a small world... I ran into a guy I met at a previous hostel outside the bar and met another guy I had met previously st my hostel. Domenico and kenia arrive tomorrow but I am leaving today.

Yesterday I walked around town and then was going to go to a park nearby that has a nice lagoon. By the time I got up, finished doing things and ate lunch the usual afternoon/evening rain looked like it was getting ready so I wisely did not go, as the rains came. I could go this morning but will likerlky just catch the 9 am bus out.

We went to one big and one small halloween party last night.

I am told I should go to Manuel Antonio park, so that is my next stop before Panama. I am told I need to go through jaco so I will stay there a bit also, probably one night.

arenal/la fortuna Costa Rica

I missed some blog posts.

The first day in LA fortuna I did not do much. I walked over to Rio fortuna where they have a rope swing. I went into the cold river a little but did not jump in or use the rope swing.

The second day my friends Domenico and kenia arrived. They met a "bargaim " taxi driver on their bus in.

He took us to arsenal observatory to see the volcano and then to the mineral springs. The observatory he told them we wanted to see the lodge so we got to go free for 20 minutes, normally you need to be staying there or pay. The mineral spring you also need to pay but he knew a trail we could walk down and not pay. He charged us $7 each. Normally it would cost around $50 each more or less.

san jose costa rica

I arrived here two nights ago. I did not do much the first night. Since that time all I have done is search for and find a notary public and then the local dhl office.

One last trip to DHL this afternoon.

There are lots of "gringos" here. I have met a few and hung out with hem tonight. There is a big Halloween party Saturday night so I will probably stay here until Sunday and then head to pasnama.

Puerto viejo cr is probably off my list and Montezuma cr fell off also.

I am hoping to walk around town today and see what there is to see and what things I want to do. I am staying at hostel pangea
